Malaysia will play host for the World Amateur Bodybuilding Championship for the third time this coming November. The first was back in 1990 and second in 2000 but at that time was an affiliate to the IFBB but the third one is under a new organization called WBPF. This new organization came about when there was a riff between ABBF and IFBB. Many interesting and promising things to come under this new org. ...just wait and see!

Anyway, back to the topic, Malaysia as I have mentioned, will be playing host to the World Championship for the third time and it will be held in Melaka , Malaysia from the 9th to the 14th of November 2011. World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) - 2011 Prohibited List.

I am very sure many are not aware of the items that are currently on the ban list. I am sharing this info that I had received from my bodybuilding federation and believe this may come in very useful for those seeking information such as this.

2011 Prohibited List
Explanatory Notes on the 2011 Prohibited List

Introduction :
Members of the Anti-Doping Community should be aware that careful consideration has been given to all of the thoughtful comments that have been provided in response to the distribution of the draft 2011 List. It will be recognized that not all suggestions have been accepted or incorporated into the 2011 List but, as is explained below, modifications to the draft have been made possible because of the contributions and submissions of many of our colleagues.

S0 NON-APPROVED SUBSTANCES AND METHODS
This section has been added in order to address the issue of the abuse of substances that are currently in an experimental phase of development or that are not or no longer permitted for human use.

S1 ANABOLIC AGENTS
This section has been modified in a minor way to standardize the spelling for certain substances.

S2 PEPTIDE HORMONES, GROWTH FACTORS AND RELATED SUBSTANCES
S2.1: This section has been modified to include the international non-proprietary name of Hematide – “peginesatide”. In order to reflect the growing number of substances developed to stimulate erythropoiesis, hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-stabilizers have been added as an example of this class of products.
S2.3: Questions relating to the use of insulins and other associated substances will be the focus of further review by the List Expert Group in 2011.
S2.6: Platelet-derived preparations have been removed from the List after consideration of the lack of any current evidence concerning the use of these methods for purposes of performance enhancement notwithstanding that these preparations contain growth factors Despite the presence of some growth factors, current studies on PRP do not demonstrate any potential for performance enhancement beyond a potential therapeutic effect. Note that individual growth factors are still prohibited when given separately as purified substances as described in S.2.5

S3 BETA-2-AGONISTS
The WADA List Expert Group made changes to S3 (beta-2-agonists) in response to the concerns expressed by members of the Sport Community. References to the “Declaration of Use” have been removed. Concerns continue to exist about the performance-enhancing effects of beta-2-agonists when taken in large quantities. The List prohibits the administration of all beta-2-agonists except salbutamol (maximum 1600 micrograms over 24 hours) and salmeterol when taken by inhalation in accordance with the recommended therapeutic regime. Urinary thresholds continue to apply to the management of salbutamol; work is ongoing to develop thresholds for other beta-2-agonists.

The issue of beta-2-agonists will continue to be the focus of WADA’s research activity in order to ensure that the administration of large doses of these substances is prevented and prohibited, but that the appropriate care and treatment of asthmatic athletes is facilitated. Ongoing surveillance of the use of these medications will continue as a priority; it is to be anticipated that there will be further changes in the way in which these substances are addressed in the future.

S5 DIURETICS AND OTHER MASKING AGENTS.
• The prohibition of glycerol is not intended to prevent the ingestion of this substance which is commonly found in a variety of foodstuffs and toiletries. Such use will not cause a competitor to test positive for this Prohibited Substance.

• “Desmopressin” has been added as an example of a masking agent.
• The last paragraph of section S5 has been revised to more clearly explain the consequences of detecting an exogenous threshold substance at a sub-threshold concentration in the presence of a diuretic or other masking agent. Even when a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) exists for the masking agent, the detection of the exogenous threshold substance at any level will be reported as an Adverse Analytical Finding by the laboratory and therefore a TUE is also required for the threshold substance when applicable.

M1 ENHANCEMENT OF OXYGEN TRANSFER
Minor changes have been made to the wording of this section to ensure consistency of style and structure.

M2 CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL MANIPULATION
M2.2: Attention is drawn to the fact that medical information is provided on the WADA Web site (http://www.wada-ama.org/Documents/Science_Medicine/Medical_info_to_support_TUECs/WADA_Medical_info_IV_infusions_v.2.2_March2010_EN.pdf) to support the decisions of TUECs regarding the use of intravenous infusions.
M2.3: The prohibition of “the sequential withdrawal, manipulation, and reinfusion of whole blood” is not intended to prevent plasmapheresis, a specialized form of blood donation, and similar processes which are often undertaken by civic-minded Athletes and do not involve the re-administration of whole blood; rather it specifically addresses the process in which an Athlete’s blood is removed, treated or manipulated, and then re-injected. Those undergoing hemodialysis, as part of the treatment of chronic kidney disease, will require a TUE for such procedures (and the substances that are often used to treat such disorders).

M3 GENE DOPING
Significant changes have occurred to the wording, and ordering, of this section for purposes of clarification.

S6 STIMULANTS
• The stimulant “methylhexaneamine” (which may be described, like many other substances, by other chemical names) is now included in the Prohibited List as a Specified Substance. This substance is now often marketed as a nutritional supplement and may frequently be referred to as “geranium oil” or “geranium root extract”.
• Minor changes have been made to the spelling of “levmetamfetamine”.

S8 CANNABINOIDS
There have been changes to this section to clarify that marijuana-like substances (cannabimimetics) are included in the List.

S9 GLUCOCORTICOSTEROIDS
The section remains unchanged from the 2010 List insofar as the prohibited routes of administration of glucocorticosteroids are concerned. Surveillance of the use of these substances continues and work is ongoing to develop threshold levels to assist in the detection and management of these substances. It is to be anticipated that there will be further changes in this section in the future. References to “Declarations of Use” and “Therapeutic Use Exemptions” have been removed.

P1 ALCOHOL
Changes have been made in response to requests by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM); due to changes introduced in the format of the competition, alcohol is no longer prohibited in Modern Pentathlon for disciplines involving shooting.

P2 BETA-BLOCKERS
• For clarification purposes, Skeleton has been added by name to the list of Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT)-governed sports where beta-blockers are prohibited.
• At the request of the federation [Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG)] beta-blockers are no longer prohibited in gymnastics.
• At the request of the federation [World Darts Federation (WDF)] beta-blockers are now prohibited in the sport of darts.

Mr.K.L. 2011 - The outcome.

Due to time constraint, I'm unable to do a full write up on the recent Mr.KL Championship.
However, I am proud to announce that both boys representing Ultimate Gym made it to the finals. Mr.Ooi Aik Dean won the Welterweight category while old timer Mr.FAdzil, who made a comeback after a 12 year hiatus, placed 5th also in the Welter category.
From left: Syed Oxzla, Ooi ,Terry Gallyot, Fadzil, Mie.Bottom , Shah, Faheem.

Kudos to both these guys for their hard work and effort. Hopefully, in 2012 I will produce more bodybuilders that will do well at both state and national level competitions.

Return of a champ.

As I write this, it is only 23 days before the Mr.Kuala Lumpur Bodybuilding competition held on the 29th of May 2011 at the  Arena Sukan Tertutup MOM, Tingkat 3, Kompleks Sukan Tertutup MOM, Jalan Hang Jebat, 50150 Kuala Lumpur.

They say that once a bodybuilder always a bodybuilder. I guess this statement is so true! My one time training partner Mohd.Fadzil used to compete back in the day but since he got married, he left the sport completely to focus on work and family. About 3 years ago he started exercising again to regain his health and stamina and not till about 1 year ago did he decide to make a comeback. It came as quite a shock to many of us as we thought that it's game over for him.Who would have guessed that 12 years later, my buddy Fadzil would be struck with the bug to compete again!

With that, we started on his journey to get back on stage. I put him back on a bulking program yet keeping his bodyfat relatively low all the way. This would allow him to get shredded without losing too much mass as he isn't the sort to carry much size to start of with. So far, he has done pretty good despite some mishaps. My buddy here has a screw in his right shoulder to hold down some tendons that got ripped off from a sudden move he did and then a torn left pec and most recent a left frozen shoulder due to a motorbike accident.

The entire journey has shown that Fadzil is truly determined to make his comeback an explosive and memorable one and I for one believe that this will be his best performance yet. He will be ready come May 29th!!!
Here are some pics of him some 4 months ago till the beginning of April. For his end result, well we will just have to wait come contest day ;) .....
Enjoy!!!

Terrygallyot.com is finally here!!!

I recently celebrated Ultimate Gym's 20th anniversary with my gym members. It turned out to be such a wonderful afternoon. More pics and details on it soon.Come to think of it ,it has been this long that I've been in this industry . ULTIMATE GYM has been around for over 2 decades!!! All the big clubs that were once the "In thing" died off only to be replaced by other new fitness chains and, ULTIMATE GYM is still here....and we will still be here long after all the newer fitness chains die off!!!

Having said all that, I finally got myself a proper website. I had one a long time ago but due to negligence on the part of the hosting company, I lost the domain name. They failed to notify me that my account , which they were handling, was due for renewal and so that was history.

However, last year, for some miraculous reason, I managed to get the domain name terrygallyot.com without any hassle. Right away, I contacted a friend of mine to see if he could help me build my website. Despite his hectic schedule, he managed to put aside some time to build my website and I am proud to announce that as of now, www.terrygallyot.com is officially active!

Finally my own website that highlights all my achievements throughout my career and services rendered.
Feel free to visit www.terrygallyot.com

Who knows, you may decide to change your current lifestyle and I am just a click away!

ADAM MARTIN - Myotherapist.

Myotherapy
Definition: Myo (Latin for muscle) is a specialised form of massage/stretching using deep manual pressure on the body to release trigger points, which can result from birth trauma/falls/strains/sprains and misuse/overuse of the body/fibromyalgia.

The technique for erasing pain is called myotherapy. Myotherapy involves an entity called trigger points. Trigger points are found in muscles that have been insulted/damaged. This damage can even begin before birth.

Trigger points can be dormant for many years. However when conditions are met that could be emotional/physical stress, they seem to light up – they tighten. When stresses subside trigger points/muscles relax. If stresses increase, these relieved muscles will light up again.

Trigger points can’t be seen – yes, they can be felt. The job of the Myotherapist is to de-trigger these points. There are two types of pain most of us experience:

Acute pain – a warning pain – has a foreseeable end, there is usually a time limit on acute pain.

Chronic pain – may or may not have an observable cause. Chronic pain is a condition in the muscles – just living?

Trigger points are laid down, known as a highly irritable spot in a muscle, contributing critically to pain. Trigger points are laid down through our entire lives, firing when conditions are right.

A trigger point is a hyper irritable spot that is painful when compressed. Trigger points are so called because stimulating the point triggers a painful response. Trigger points can be active or latent. Active trigger points cause the patient pain. When stimulated active trigger points refer pain to other areas of the body that are not connected/associated by nerve or dermatomal segment.

Latent trigger points only exhibit pain when compressed and they do not refer pain and may or may not radiate pain around the point.

Trigger points, whether active or latent, result in dysfunction. A trigger point may be reflexively related to, contracture in the muscle, constriction/hypersensitivity in the skin and or local or referred areas, constriction in local circulation resulting from hypertonus and constriction of the muscle.

A myofascial trigger point is found in muscle tissue or its associated fascia. It is located in a taut band of muscle fibres. Normal muscles do not contain taut bands of muscle fibres and therefore do not contain trigger points.

Myotherapy involves a partnership between the Myotherapist and patient, erasing trigger points. Myotherapists treat cause as well as the symptoms of a wide range of conditions. Myotherapy is beneficial when used as a preventative/maintenance tool to keep physical/emotional stresses to a minimum.

Now that you have a basic idea of what a Myotherapist does, meet Mr. Adam Martin.

Former Mr.Asia and long time friend Mr.Bujang Taha had recently lost his home and all of his belongings including all his medals and trophies to a raging blaze that happened recently in his homeland, Kuching. Saddened by this tragic news, I dug into my old phone book and lucky enough, had found his telephone number that he shares with his wife. As I am all the way here in Kuala Lumpur, I told him that I will do my best to help him raise some money from this side of Malaysia, at least to help him rebuild his life....it's the least I can do for an old friend.

Anyway below is the article which appeared in the Star papers recently:

Sweet Injuries!

As most of you who know me on a personal level or simply have been following my blog, may also know that I have been bodybuilding for over 24 years now. Now 24 years is no joke mind you! It's a bloody long time to be doing the same routines day in and out.

Of course exercising gives you great health and strength benefits, HOWEVER, for people like me who are rather a lil' sadistic, will always try to take it the extra mile in every training session. This is when the problem starts!

I think if someone were to ask me about virtually any sort of problem they are experiencing due to weight training injuries, I may just about be able to answer them and give them an answer as to how to treat their problems. Why? Cos' I've been there in most cases!

Anyway, back in 2009, i had torn my hamstrings in 2 places...read article HERE.  I had to undergo treatment at the ISTITUTE SUKAN NEGARA(ISN) and they did a rather good job at rehabilitating my injuries. For that I am grateful for their services. All along though, I had another problem but somehow it reared it's ugly head recently. I progressively got worse over the weeks in Jan 2011.

The problem was, me being unable to walk up any staircase, press the car clutch and obviously not work on my legs. The pain would be quite excruciating when the knees were bent at a certain halfway point rendering the entire leg hopeless. Now this was beginning to alarm me for I was really unable to train now let alone do normal daily stuff. So, naturally, where do I seek help? The people from ISN that had treated my torn hamstrings before.

They ran some tests and did some assessment to determine the root of my problem and concluded that the entire problem resulted from a hip displacement which caused the muscles and fascia to run out of proper alignment. So of course, I attended physio for almost 3 weeks. They reckon I needed to do a lot of stretching, something I would freely admit to NOT doing on a regular basis. Well after 3 weeks of therapy, guess what? The problem did not improve! That's right, NO real improvements. So at this point I was getting rather worried and frustrated.

My next move was to call up an old friend who used to work at ISN, a sports therapist as well except his field is a bit different from the others. He name is Adam Martin and he is a Myotherapist. I have seen him twice thus far and VOILA! 95% of my acute knee pain is gone. He addressed the issue like a pro...well...he IS a pro...LOL! He is perhaps the only certified myotherapist in Malaysia and let me tell you something people..if you have some sort of chronic pain in your joints and muscles, and when physio and chiros aren't doing you much good, when doctors tell you that you need surgery, try Adam out first!!! He has a god given gift that, in my opinion, would solve most if not all of your problems.

Of course he doesn't come cheap, fees are a bit on the premium end BUT wouldn't you be happier having to pay his fees and get sorted out once and for all than to be running around like some headless chicken consulting all sorts of specialists and eventually end up spending more AND still living in pain? I know I would rather pay the fees and be done with it!

Who is and how can you reach Adam Martin? Well, stay tuned for my next post as I will be bringing you a little bit more information about what is a myotherapist and about this fine gentleman who has those god given hands, so tune in again soon!

2011 forumers gathering.

It was a rainy and gloomy 30th of Jan 2011 - Sun at about 12.00 noon when a whole bunch of forum members from both PROBUFFEDBODIES and BINABADAN FORUMER gathered at Satay Haji Samuri along the Taman Melati hiway towards Karak for the first time for this year 2011.

A few years ago, I created a fitness and bodybuilding forum called PROBUFFEDBODIES which addressed mainly in english and shortly after that BINABADAN FORUMER was created for the malay speaking crowd. Members would often cross over and share thoughts and ideas. Since then, both our forums have had a very good repo with one another.

Although many members are not active in both forums, the ones that are are the ones that has gained much from this whole deal, not only learning a lot about fitness related topics but has also gained many new good friends. For those who feel as though these gatherings are a waste of time, or if they feel as though the crowd here are below you, they are sooo wrong!!!

We have many good people in these 2 forums and i guess just as the old saying goes, "Birds of a feather flock together!" hold so much truth to it. I am glad to be a part of this ever growing "family" and would so love to  see our forums being one of the many close knit community that exists out there.

So, if you are still not a part of these 2 forums, I'd suggest you give it a try...afterall it is FREE and if you feel that these people are just not quite your cup of tea, well, you can always pull out....BUT give it a go first.

ULTIMATE GYM - Celebrating 20 years of service.

Today, the 19th of Jan 2011, Wednesday evening, as I sat at the restaurant below my gym having a short break, drinking a glass of lemon barley, pondering on the things I've done and achieved and what other stuff I have in mind that I want to accomplish, it hit me that, I started ULTIMATE GYM exactly 20 years ago this month!

I may have some older pictures of me back in the day when Ultimate Gym was first set up but that's another story. This gym has come such a long way with so many trials and tribulation and is still here to serve the general public seeking a decent gym to go to. God willing, ULTIMATE GYM will expand it's business and continue to keep it's doors open to those seeking a place to exercise and socialize.

For those who have been a part of the ULTIMATE GYM family, I would like to extend my appreciation and many thanks for continually supporting my gym.

Here's to many more years of health, wealth and friendship!

THANK YOU EVERYBODY!!!
