Visceral Fat - know the dangers!

As most of you already know, or may not, the human body carries a certain amount of body fat. Don't think that fat doesn't have any important role in the human body....they do!
They help insulate the body , protect the joint, act as energy reserves and it even goes to the extent of helping with hormone productions in the body.

There are two types of fat, typically they are Subcutaneous fat, the fat under the skin and Visceral fat, the sort that surrounds your internal organs. The sort of fat you see under your skin, isn't as dangerous as the ones located inside of your body.

To cut the story short, you need to get rid of as much Visceral fat from your entire body as possible in order to maintain a relatively healthy body, possibly free from diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes type 2 etc.

Below are some pictorial charts that is self explanatory. Have a read! It could save you a lot of money and time down the road!

UNO NUTRITION - A great Malaysian product.

I often get people asking me about what brand of supplement to buy. To be honest, there are hundreds if not thousands of brands out there in the market today and there is just no way for me to be able to give any type of feedback. However, I can give some feedback on the product that I have and is still using. It is a Malaysian brand and I am proud to say that this brand actually produces great formulas despite many who criticize it because...well...because it is simply Malaysian. So sad right?

The good news about this brand is, it is Halal, it's ingredients are of the finest quality, it is researched before manufactured and it's contents are just as what is stipulated on the label. POWER COUPLE - Revisited.

It is now moving into our 4th year being together. Both Lilian Tan and I share the same passion as far as bodybuilding is concerned . Of course there are several other interests that we both share but bodybuilding is top of the list. We are now being identified by certain sectors of the public as 'The Power Couple' simply because  both of us are into bodybuilding but that wouldn't be complete. Not until we are seen and heard conducting talks , giving motivational seminars or bodybuilding workshop together.

Often enough, we would sit and discuss materials related to fitness and bodybuilding, diet and nutrition and so forth. Knowing that someday we would like to venture into this area, we started putting things together just to be prepared for that very day.

Well , that moment came much sooner than anticipated. Before we knew it, we were contacted by Mr.Dan Ling, proud owner of Phoenix Gym, located in Kuching, Sarawak. He wanted us to fly over to conduct a fitness, bodybuilding and nutrition workshop at his gym. I am sure it was quite an experience for the people that attended our program.

Lilian and I were very excited and happy with everything considering this was to be our very first time conducting a fitness and bodybuilding workshop together. History was made that day! We are certain that our workshop helped shed some light to those that were present that day. As time goes by, both of us will definitely try to offer more packages related to this wonderful industry.

Mr.Dan Ling, owner of Phoenix Gym, Kuching, Sarawak was certainly a very good host too. On top of giving us this opportunity to work together, his hospitality was par none!
Someday, we would hope to be able to travel around the country, providing valuable information on how to live a healthy lifestyle through bodybuilding. Until that day comes, Live life Full Throttle, Live Life Healthy !

It's been a while since I updated my blog. It has been a rather busy period for me, with work plus was pretty much brain dead for the duration. World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) - 2011 Prohibited List.

I am very sure many are not aware of the items that are currently on the ban list. I am sharing this info that I had received from my bodybuilding federation and believe this may come in very useful for those seeking information such as this.

2011 Prohibited List
Explanatory Notes on the 2011 Prohibited List

Introduction :
Members of the Anti-Doping Community should be aware that careful consideration has been given to all of the thoughtful comments that have been provided in response to the distribution of the draft 2011 List. It will be recognized that not all suggestions have been accepted or incorporated into the 2011 List but, as is explained below, modifications to the draft have been made possible because of the contributions and submissions of many of our colleagues.

S0 NON-APPROVED SUBSTANCES AND METHODS
This section has been added in order to address the issue of the abuse of substances that are currently in an experimental phase of development or that are not or no longer permitted for human use.

S1 ANABOLIC AGENTS
This section has been modified in a minor way to standardize the spelling for certain substances.

S2 PEPTIDE HORMONES, GROWTH FACTORS AND RELATED SUBSTANCES
S2.1: This section has been modified to include the international non-proprietary name of Hematide – “peginesatide”. In order to reflect the growing number of substances developed to stimulate erythropoiesis, hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-stabilizers have been added as an example of this class of products.
S2.3: Questions relating to the use of insulins and other associated substances will be the focus of further review by the List Expert Group in 2011.
S2.6: Platelet-derived preparations have been removed from the List after consideration of the lack of any current evidence concerning the use of these methods for purposes of performance enhancement notwithstanding that these preparations contain growth factors Despite the presence of some growth factors, current studies on PRP do not demonstrate any potential for performance enhancement beyond a potential therapeutic effect. Note that individual growth factors are still prohibited when given separately as purified substances as described in S.2.5

S3 BETA-2-AGONISTS
The WADA List Expert Group made changes to S3 (beta-2-agonists) in response to the concerns expressed by members of the Sport Community. References to the “Declaration of Use” have been removed. Concerns continue to exist about the performance-enhancing effects of beta-2-agonists when taken in large quantities. The List prohibits the administration of all beta-2-agonists except salbutamol (maximum 1600 micrograms over 24 hours) and salmeterol when taken by inhalation in accordance with the recommended therapeutic regime. Urinary thresholds continue to apply to the management of salbutamol; work is ongoing to develop thresholds for other beta-2-agonists.

The issue of beta-2-agonists will continue to be the focus of WADA’s research activity in order to ensure that the administration of large doses of these substances is prevented and prohibited, but that the appropriate care and treatment of asthmatic athletes is facilitated. Ongoing surveillance of the use of these medications will continue as a priority; it is to be anticipated that there will be further changes in the way in which these substances are addressed in the future.

S5 DIURETICS AND OTHER MASKING AGENTS.
• The prohibition of glycerol is not intended to prevent the ingestion of this substance which is commonly found in a variety of foodstuffs and toiletries. Such use will not cause a competitor to test positive for this Prohibited Substance.

• “Desmopressin” has been added as an example of a masking agent.
• The last paragraph of section S5 has been revised to more clearly explain the consequences of detecting an exogenous threshold substance at a sub-threshold concentration in the presence of a diuretic or other masking agent. Even when a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) exists for the masking agent, the detection of the exogenous threshold substance at any level will be reported as an Adverse Analytical Finding by the laboratory and therefore a TUE is also required for the threshold substance when applicable.

M1 ENHANCEMENT OF OXYGEN TRANSFER
Minor changes have been made to the wording of this section to ensure consistency of style and structure.

M2 CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL MANIPULATION
M2.2: Attention is drawn to the fact that medical information is provided on the WADA Web site (http://www.wada-ama.org/Documents/Science_Medicine/Medical_info_to_support_TUECs/WADA_Medical_info_IV_infusions_v.2.2_March2010_EN.pdf) to support the decisions of TUECs regarding the use of intravenous infusions.
M2.3: The prohibition of “the sequential withdrawal, manipulation, and reinfusion of whole blood” is not intended to prevent plasmapheresis, a specialized form of blood donation, and similar processes which are often undertaken by civic-minded Athletes and do not involve the re-administration of whole blood; rather it specifically addresses the process in which an Athlete’s blood is removed, treated or manipulated, and then re-injected. Those undergoing hemodialysis, as part of the treatment of chronic kidney disease, will require a TUE for such procedures (and the substances that are often used to treat such disorders).

M3 GENE DOPING
Significant changes have occurred to the wording, and ordering, of this section for purposes of clarification.

S6 STIMULANTS
• The stimulant “methylhexaneamine” (which may be described, like many other substances, by other chemical names) is now included in the Prohibited List as a Specified Substance. This substance is now often marketed as a nutritional supplement and may frequently be referred to as “geranium oil” or “geranium root extract”.
• Minor changes have been made to the spelling of “levmetamfetamine”.

S8 CANNABINOIDS
There have been changes to this section to clarify that marijuana-like substances (cannabimimetics) are included in the List.

S9 GLUCOCORTICOSTEROIDS
The section remains unchanged from the 2010 List insofar as the prohibited routes of administration of glucocorticosteroids are concerned. Surveillance of the use of these substances continues and work is ongoing to develop threshold levels to assist in the detection and management of these substances. It is to be anticipated that there will be further changes in this section in the future. References to “Declarations of Use” and “Therapeutic Use Exemptions” have been removed.

P1 ALCOHOL
Changes have been made in response to requests by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM); due to changes introduced in the format of the competition, alcohol is no longer prohibited in Modern Pentathlon for disciplines involving shooting.

P2 BETA-BLOCKERS
• For clarification purposes, Skeleton has been added by name to the list of Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT)-governed sports where beta-blockers are prohibited.
• At the request of the federation [Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG)] beta-blockers are no longer prohibited in gymnastics.
• At the request of the federation [World Darts Federation (WDF)] beta-blockers are now prohibited in the sport of darts.

PROBUFFEDBODIES FORUM - revisited.

Years ago i toyed around with the idea of starting up a forum for us folks here in Malaysia (or anyone else for the matter) covering mainly health and bodybuilding related topics mainly in Malaysia. What started out as a little hobby of mine slowly grew into quite a busy forum for a while.

I started this forum precisely on the 15th of  Aug 2007 at  04:17 pm...so the data says LOL! There were high traffic moments and some seriously dry days here, never the less it has contributed some pretty good articles and pointers to many out there who were...well...pretty much in there to extract information rather than contribute anything. It has been slow as of late, partly due to the lack of interaction by members and the fact that there hasn't been many interesting happenings around.

Well, no worries, I'm very sure things will start to pick up again as it always does so you folks out there who would love to be part of a community that shares the same interest, do not hesitate to pay PROBUFFEDBODIES a visit and register as a member.

One can never learn enough ; )
See you guys there!

AGONY OF JOINT PAINS - Week 9

Today, 12th of June - Saturday, another late entry on my update of my consumption of Olivenol capsules. Apologies for the late entry which is largely due to my busy schedule with my clients here at ULTIMATE GYM.

Well I'm in my 9th week on this product. Most of my joints feel much better with the exception of my lower back and knees. However, the major problems ie.lower back and knees are showing  more signs of improvements. They do not seem to nag with pain now except after a gruelling workout which leaves me slightly sore the next day. I also have taken some necessary precautions such as avoiding squats and deadlifts or any other movements that would hit the effected areas too hard.

Hopefully another couple of weeks most of the pain would have gone. My problems have taken a bit longer to heal up largely due to the fact that I've been lifting weights for the last 24 years hence taking a toll on my joints. Thankfully, I was introduced to this product. It has certainly made a difference in my life and for those still having doubts, TRY IT! Honestly, you have nothing to lose. If it doesn't work on your joint problems, then it WILL certainly work in aiding to strengthen your immune system.

I probably still have a good couple of weeks supply left and will certainly update you readers of my progress. Till then...... PEACE!

AGONY OF JOINT PAINS - Week 8

Today, June 3rd Friday, 2 days late for my report largely due to matters that needed urgent attention at the gym .

Anyway, this is supposed to be my final week however since I still have extra supply, I will keep updating my progress until I run out of my supply. In my previous posts, I reported on how much pain reduced in my joints mainly the elbows, wrists and shoulders and in recent weeks the lower back and knees as well. My lower back has improved slightly but pain still comes and goes, a step better than before where it was perpetually in pain. This could be a sign of it healing. Kind of like the cartilage being repaired or rebuilt and isn't strong yet therefore some shifting and pressure on nerves still happens....better than having constant pain tho. Lets see if there will be more improvements to the lower back area in coming weeks. Afterall, this is one very delicate area and one cannot expect miracles.

 Till my next report
Peace!

AGONY OF JOINT PAINS - Week 7

Today 26th May, Wednesday marks my 7th week on Olivenol capsules. As those of you who have been following my progress, you will probably remember that I started out at an 8 out 10 on the joint pain scale and stagnated at 4 a couple of weeks back. Most of my joints like elbow, wrist and shoulder have improved tremendously....although there's still a slight pinching sensation every now and then when too much pressure is applied on them.

The biggest breakthrough last week was...my lower back! All along, the back and knees were the ones to lookout for. They were the real problem areas. However, sometime last week, something weird happened. I don't know if the supplement helped or maybe because the disc slipped back into position...but I woke up the next morning and the pain in the lower back had disappeared about a whopping 80% . I mean I will still feel some pressure if I stood up for long moments but most of the pain were gone. Now I'm carefully watching it so as not to get it busted again. The strangest thing was the knee...I believe it is linked to the lower back issue because as soon as the lower back felt better, the knees started feeling better too. Probably nerves being pinched as such.

Whatever the reasons for feeling better, I'm thankful because living with such pain day in day out can be pretty excruciating at times. Also I must say that Olivenol has actually played a part in my recovery and for that I feel a BIG THANK YOU is only appropriate. I still have supply for a couple more weeks so I will keep updating my progress until my supply runs out. Hopefully by such time, I will be more if not completely healed.

Till then, PEACE!

ULTIMATE GYM - serious fitness.

Back in 1991, I decided to set up a gym. I looked at several locations but finally ended up deciding on setting it up in Taman Melawati, Ulu Klang. Back in those days, Taman Melawati was like the Hollywood of Kuala Lumpur. Since then I've moved a couple of times around this area and finally settling down in Wangsa Maju where it's most strategic.

Being in operation since Jan 1991 till present, and being located within this area all along , I'm still amazed at how many people that are still unaware of my fitness center. So today, I am re-posting my gym logo, address, contact number along with a location map so that people may be able to locate my center.

It is a unisex gym....that means MEN & WOMEN are welcome. Facilities include full range of machines , ample dumbells and free weights and cardio machines.

On top of regular mambership packages there are also personal training services packaged at reasonable rates that will allow people to afford these packages. Call or visit personally to have a better understanding of the services available.

Operating hours are :-
Mon  to  Fri     :12.00 to 10.00 pm
Sat                    :12.00 to 6.00  pm
Sun                   : closed
Public Holiday : to be advised

AGONY OF JOINT PAINS - Week 1

Today, 14th of April - Wed, I am finally at week 1 of being on Olivenol livin capsules. If you recall in my last post, I tagged my joint pains at 8 out of 10. Well as of today, exactly 1 week out, I am glad to announce that the pain that has plagued most of my joints seem somewhat reduced. I would rank it at about a 6 right now...down 2 notches from 8.

I noticed a lot lesser pain in my knees and elbows....however the pain in the lower back seems to have reduced ever so slightly...perhaps I would need more time for this area as there are so many nerves running through that area. Afterall I have only been on this product for exactly 1 week.

I have already had people asking me what the outcome is like...I have to keep reminding them that I've only been on this product for only a week and would need at least 8 weeks to really see drastic changes. That being said, I can tell you that any inflammation serrounding the joints will be noticeably reduced

Lets wait and see how I feel come week 2 and so on....hopefully it goes all the way to recovery or even 80%...I would be soOOooo happy!

See you guys next week then...
PEACE!

AGONY OF JOINT PAINS - Day 1

Today the 7th of Arpil - Wednesday, I received my 8 week supply of Oilvenol livin capsules. For the next 8 weeks I will be keeping a close eye on how my body reacts to this supplement for my joint problems. As prescribed, I am to consume 2 capsules twice a day. Currently my main problem areas that hurt are my knees, lower back and sometimes elbow and wrist. Yes I know..I am a walking wreck!!!

Lets me try and tag my pain on a scale of 1 to 10. That way as I go along, we could see how much progress I have made so far.Currently I would put my pain level at 8 because eventhough I am in a relax position, there is some pain radiating around my problem area.

I tell you, if this product works, I'm gonna get Olivenol to endorse me as their spokesperson hehehehee!!!
Gotta go...update you people in a weeks time!

Peace out!

AGONY OF JOINT PAINS.

How many times have you heard someone complain of joint pains? I'm very sure at some point of time, you would have heard someone either in or outside the gym mention this to you. Typically, there are many factors that could bring about this dilemma in an individual. In my case, it is due to years of heavy lifting...24 years to be exact!!!

Of course some of my problems are related to displacement of some nerves which can actually mimic a typical joint pain. For these sort of problems I usually seek the help of a friend who is a certified Myotherapist. But some of the other joint problems like the knee, elbows and wrists etc.would require a different approach. A Myotherapist will not be able to fix worn out cartilages, tendons and ligaments.

This is when I turned to joint protection supplements....the idea is for it to work from within by consuming these products regularly. I have tried using Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM for months but only to be dissappointed by the outcome. Nothing happened! Nada!

Then I started using another product called Super Cissus Rx which is supposed to help strengthen your joints and help rebuild cartilage etc...already on it for more than a month...yet still not much difference. People have made claims that this product is so good that within a couple of weeks they feel so much better...I guess my case is very different because nothing happened.

Of course I've not forgotten to add some essential fatty acids along the way...such as omega 3 & 6 to help with its anti inflammatory properties that  relieves joint pain.

So, in my quest to look for the right supplement to help with my chronic pain from wear and tear, I came across Olivenol livin' products. I've seen and heard of this products some 2 years ago and have heard first hand on how this stuff is good and all. So I actually wrote to them explaining my situation and as a small challenge, they offered me their products to try out. All i have to do is keep a record here on my blog on a weekly basis updating people on how my progress is coming along.

Well, my batch of goodies just arrived today and all i need to do is take 2 capsules twice a day for 8 weeks. So guys, if any of you who have joint problems, you may want to keep track of my weekly report here. Who knows, it may help you solve your problems too.

Peace!!!

ROAD TO RECOVERY.

Well these pictures were taken earlier while i was attending physiotherapy in ISN, Bukit Jalil. The person in charge was very good and had made sure I was taken care of.They put me under 3 different types of treatment. The sound wave/micro wave treatment, muscle stimulation and ultra sound.
It's been about 3 weeks since i got the injury but by day 12 of the injury i was already doing some light leg workout. The therapist told me not to but being a stubborn assed bodybuilder, I didn't listen hehehehehee!!! Went ahead and trained a little bit.Felt so good to be able to train legs again.I didn't push things the way I usually do tho because I couldn't risk re-injuring myself again especially this close to a competition.
Anyhow I'm on the mend right now and tonight I'm going to try to do legs again with a bit more intensity and see how things go.My check up with the doctor is 23rd April and I'm keen to hear what he has to say considering the fact that I have a 3rd degree tear which under normal circumstances would take a minimum of 2 months to recover THEN strength, conditioning and flexibility treatment that may take another month or so.
Thanks to UNO NUTRITION for providing me with ample amounts of high IGG/IGF whey protein and L-Glutamine that i believe helped me loads with my recovery.
If all goes as planned...Mr Malaysia 2009 will see the return of a brand new TERRY GALLYOT!!

UPDATED COMP PIC - 16 WEEKS OUT.

Ok this are pics taken one day after leg workout hence they are looking a lil deflated. Can't contract them here or they would cramp up.Thanks to a cheap digital camera and a lousy cameraman.....LOL!....this is the kind of pics we managed to take after my workout session.

Being on such a low carb diet can be really taxing, but at this point it is totally necessary.Once the body has peaked then a carb loading phase will take place and this is when the muscles will start looking fuller, rounder and so much more tighter.

I can't thank UNO NUTRITION enough for sponsoring me their supplements to help me achieve my goals.I know that without their support, I'd be really broke LOL! Imagine having to spend so much more money just to obtain the necessary supplements you need during a pre-comp phase.....OUCH!

So anyways...below are the 8 cumpolsury poses we took in random arrangement.Need to tighten up the waistline more, bring up legs a lil more , basically get more cut overall. This is what i have managed to achieve in about 1 month and I still have 4 months to go before comp day.I'm quite confident that I can nail my condition come comp day.

The COMEBACK!!!

A couple of years back, I wanted to make a comeback to competitive competition but unfortunately injuries and financial strain put a dead halt to my plans.
Although not fully recovered from my injuries, I think this time around I will be able to train hard and make my way back to the posing dias. It's been about 5 years since i last competed so making a comeback is certainly not gonna be a walk in the park.

Nevertheless, I've made up my mind to make it happen no matter what.As always, money will be an issue but this time I will find means and ways to overcome this problem. The fire within me to compete is burning white hot. There's gonna be a lot to do to regain top form.Luckily for me, I never stopped training all these years.

I hope to be able to come in much bigger and more ripped this year. With the help of UNO NUTRITION, at least one of my obstacle is out of the way.Nutrition plays a vital role in bodybuilding so having UNO NUTRITION back me up here is a huge bonus.

The first show for me will be the Nationals (Mr. Malaysia) this coming 24th - 26th July held in Johor.I'm pretty pumped and psyched up for the upcoming show.A week after the Nationals will be Mr.Asia to be held on the 2nd - 7th of August in Iran.Hopefully I come in good enough to convince the federation to send me for the Mr.Asia.

Pictures to follow suit..once i get rolling..there will be no stopping me!!!
